The Sealed Book of Moses

The book of Exodus in the King James Bible, tells us about the ancient prophet Moses, as do the following three books. In this book we are taught of many things, including, the circumstances surrounding his birth, his early years living with the Pharaoh, the burning bush and the plagues, the deliverance of the Israelites from bondage, and the Ten Commandments. As was the case with many prophets, Moses' ministry extended beyond the limits of his own mortal lifetime. In the company with Elijah, he came to the Mount of Transfiguration to Jesus and bestowed keys of the priesthood upon Peter, James, and John.

Joseph Smith also gave a true account of Moses as given to him in a revelation, in June 1830. This account is recorded in the Pearl of Great Price. In 1836, Moses came again to the earth, to the temple in Kirkland, Ohio, and conferred the keys of the gathering of Israel upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery (D&C 110:11), so that the keys of authority would once more be operative among men on earth.

With the opening of the first full book of the sealed portion of the Gold Plates, we are again being taught by this ancient prophet, Moses, in the Sealed Book of Moses. It is a book which had been hidden and was discovered in the days of King Josiah. Shaphan the Scribe read it to the king along with the law of Moses (2 Kings 22:10). Shaphan was the father of Lehi, who saved it from the destruction of Jerusalem and brought it for his descendants.

This book contains a manual for high priests after the order of Melchizedek. That high level of priesthood has long been lost from the corporate LDS Church (D&C 124:28), so such a manual is sorely needed in our day, because that priesthood has now been restored.

In this book, Moses teaches us that Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will again return and "find at last, a people who observe His commandments, strictly clean from the filthiness of the world of Satan, and pure of heart; having all things in common, just as in the days of Enoch, when they lived in a 'United Order.'" (Sealed Moses 17:27).
